Tip-Top-Tap”

(Chicago, Illinois)

More on this piece:

I liked the signage at the top of the Allerton Hotel and the Hotel’s history so much that I decided to capture another painting of the Hotel.

The painting is decidedly off-center and desolate to focus on the prominence of the Tip – Top – Tap neon lights and the mystique of what was occurring below within the hotel.

What’s interesting historically about the Allerton is that in the early 1900s it was the tallest building in Chicago for some time and in the mid-1900s the Tip-Top-Tap (penthouse) was one of the most trendy bars in the Windy city.
