“Lady Liberty at Sunset”

I had a wonderful sailing experience several years back with a sunset cruise down the Hudson River and by the Statue of Liberty in New York Harbor. The weather was perfect and captured some incredible shots …so good I decided to capture the scene in oil for posterity.
It’s been so long I honestly don’t remember if it was Classic Harbor Line or Manhattan by Sail but do recall it was well worth the money spent!
The painting features a perfect evening with light placid clouds drifting over the harbor with the sky blending in and out of various colorful shades. The sun setting on the right to the West over New Jersey, with NYC off-canvas to the right. The Statue of Liberty, on the left, sitting atop it’s pedestal on Liberty Island, is almost completely silhouetted against the sky. Still the Statue faintly displays the telltale aspect of the teal oxidized copper cladding patina and features sculpted by Frédéric Auguste Bartholdi and gifted to the U.S. by France in 1886. The Island almost completely black with some hints of green trees, lights, and a pier. Waves tumbling in the Harbor and reflecting the sunset. Finally the piece is completed with a subtle signature in the lower lefthand corner ‘Vojir’
Uniquely this was the first painting I restrained from more coverage as a means to emulate more-so of the famous Toulouse Lautrec’s dashing stroke-work and penchant for leaving a portions of the canvas bare except for the rust colored priming. The longer I paint, the more I am starting to admire his quick seeming haste to move onto the next project. Yet it doesn’t come off as sloppy at all; instead, it serves to add more life to piece.
The piece also comes in a magnificent original wood carved, gold leaf gilded frame.
